Discover together how fair Artificial Intelligence can emerge
How does an Artificial Intelligence actually learn? And why is it not automatically neutral or just? In the interactive workshop at the Gelsenkirchen Education Center, young people engage playfully and understandably with the opportunities and challenges of modern AI. The family experience is aimed at children and teenagers aged 11 to 15 and combines curiosity, fun learning, and time together.
Understanding AI instead of just using it
Chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or LLaMA seem friendly and helpful. However, their responses emerge from large datasets, which can also include human biases. The workshop shows age-appropriately how AI is built and trained and at which points inequalities can enter a system.
Interactive games make technology comprehensible
Instead of just listening, participants take on the role of an AI in training. Interactive games make visible how limited a machine's perspective can be when learning from biased or incomplete examples. This practical learning experience promotes understanding, critical thinking, and a safe handling of digital technologies.
Discussing justice and developing solutions
In the further course, the workshop sensitively addresses real situations in which AI can treat people unfairly. The young people think together about which rules, data, and decisions could enable a fairer AI. Important questions about responsibility, diversity, discrimination, and safety arise.
Expert knowledge from research and programming
The workshop is led by the founders of Sepisight. They bring experience from AI research and AI programming and also conduct their workshops in schools and libraries. Therefore, the offering combines technical expertise with a child-friendly and pedagogically understandable approach.
Conclusion: A strong family experience for curious young people
This workshop invites young people not only to marvel at Artificial Intelligence but to critically question and actively shape it. Laughter from children, wonder, and mutual contemplation are as much part of it as digital education and social responsibility. Participation is free, but prior registration is required.
