Bochumer Straße in Gelsenkirchen: Experience Urban Development on a Walk

Bochumer Straße in Transition: Experience Urban Development on a Guided Tour

How does a historic street become a future-proof district? On October 14, 2026, VHS Gelsenkirchen invites you to an informative stroll through Ückendorf. The focus will be on the urban development measures surrounding the renovation of Bochumer Straße.

Historic Pleasure Street and New District Center

Bochumer Straße shapes Ückendorf with its Gründerzeit buildings and the listed Heilig Kreuz Church. Once considered a prestigious street and an important district center, vacancies and the structural condition of many buildings have led to a high need for renovation.

900 Meters of Urban Renewal Up Close

During the tour, participants will gain insights into the various urban development measures of the renovation area. From 2025 to approximately 2029, the street space along a length of about 900 meters will be completely redesigned. The event showcases how modern urban planning, district development, and revitalization interconnect.

Practical Insights into Event Planning

The walk combines expert knowledge with immediate observation on site. Participants will experience the event atmosphere of a guided neighborhood tour, follow the structural changes directly in the street space, and learn about the objectives behind the organization and implementation of the project. Thus, the event experience is aimed at anyone interested in architecture, urban history, and sustainable district development.

Important Notes for the Tour

The meeting point is the neighborhood office Haus Reichstein at Bochumer Straße 114. As the event takes place outdoors, weatherproof clothing is recommended. Registration is required. The event is organized by VHS Gelsenkirchen and is free of charge.
