On Two Wheels: A Touching Journey Between Grief, Friendship, and Courage to Live
On Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the Municipal Cinema Gelsenkirchen will show the French tragicomedy On Two Wheels as part of the Film Land France series. The screening at Schauburg Filmpalast combines fine humor with a personal story of loss, friendship, and the courage to move on.
A Road Movie with an Unusual Route
Filmmaker Mathias sets off with his best friend Philippe and dog Lucky on bicycles. Their journey takes them across Europe – from the French Atlantic coast to the Black Sea. Along the way, they follow the path that Mathias's deceased son traveled a few years ago.
From the quiet search for traces, a surprisingly cheerful adventure full of encounters unfolds. The route becomes an emotional backdrop for a journey where memories, conversations, and new impressions intertwine.
Between Quiet Grief and Fine Humor
On Two Wheels tells its story with great sensitivity. The pain of loss remains palpable, yet the staging repeatedly opens space for warmth, situational comedy, and life-affirming moments. The friendship of the two main characters appears delicate, honest, and free from exaggerated gestures.
Mathias Mlekuz and Philippe Rebbot carry the tragicomedy with vulnerability and natural presence. This creates an event experience for cinema fans who appreciate sophisticated French films, European road movies, and stories with emotional depth.
KoKi Series Film Land France
The screening is part of the KoKi series Film Land France, which presents selected French and European films at the Schauburg Filmpalast. The event is planned for a duration of 89 minutes and is suitable for ages 6 and up.
The event atmosphere in the cinema provides the perfect setting for this quiet, humorous, and thought-provoking road movie. The audience can expect not an ordinary bicycle adventure, but a finely observed journey through landscapes, memories, and interpersonal closeness.
