Ancient Persia: A Journey to World Power, Knowledge, and High Culture
On Monday, November 2, 2026, the online lecture opens a view into one of the most fascinating empires of antiquity. Under the Achaemenid dynasty, Persia developed into a world power in the 6th and 5th centuries BC, whose influence stretched from the Mediterranean to the Indus.
How Persia Rose to Great Power
Prof. Dr. Holger Sonnabend shows how the Persian rulers maintained an empire for about 200 years with political, organizational, and infrastructural means. The focus is on the administration of great distances, empire-wide transportation routes, and the interaction with diverse peoples and cultures.
Persepolis, Art, and Science
The event also leads to the grandeur of Persepolis and highlights the cultural achievements of ancient Persian society. Art, science, and religion are not seen as peripheral topics but as fundamental pillars of a high culture that significantly shaped the history of the ancient Orient.
Online Event with Historical Depth
The digital event experience takes place on the Edudip platform. Participation requires an internet-capable device with speakers or headphones. Access data will be sent after registration with the confirmation via email. The cooperation with vhs Böblingen-Sindelfingen combines regional educational work with a nationwide accessible knowledge format.
Persia Between Past and Present
In conclusion, the lecture will focus on how ancient Persian history and culture are perceived in today's Iran. This connects historical classification, cultural historical perspectives, and current memory culture.
Conclusion
Visitors can look forward to a well-founded online lecture on power, infrastructure, tolerance, and cultural radiance in ancient Persia. Those interested in history, archaeology, and the great civilizations of the ancient Orient will experience an informative evening with Prof. Dr. Holger Sonnabend. Early registration is worthwhile, as access data will be sent individually via email.
