Writing Literary Miniatures with Nora Schramm

A poem, a scene, an observation, or a short dialogue: In the four-hour text workshop with Nora Schramm, small forms become great literary moments. On October 11, 2026, Gelsenkirchen's sixth Writer in Residence invites writing enthusiasts to the Fürstenberg room of the outer castle of Schloss Horst.

The Art of the Short Form

Literary miniatures condense perception, language, and narrative movement in a small space. In this workshop, short self-written texts of up to half a page are the focus. Participants are encouraged to bring their own text or ideally submit it by October 4.

Writing between Observation and Scene

Whether poem, dialogue, snapshot, or scenic sketch: The text workshop opens various approaches to the art of language. Nora Schramm writes prose, poetry, and scenic texts, combining precise observation with an independent literary form in her work. Her debut novel Hollow Spaces was published in 2024 by Matthes & Seitz Berlin and was awarded the Kranichsteiner Literature Prize as well as the Mara Cassens Prize.

Nora Schramm as Writer in Residence

The author, born in the South Palatinate and living in Cologne, will work as a Writer in Residence in Gelsenkirchen from September to November 2026. Her writing workshop creates an immediate space for author encounters, creative exchange, and shared reflection on style, narrative perspective, and literary quality.

An Intimate Reading Atmosphere at Schloss Horst

The Fürstenberg room in the outer castle of Schloss Horst provides the atmospheric setting for this literary experience. Between historic walls, a concentrated writing situation emerges, where voice, rhythm, and linguistic precision matter just as much as the courage to present one’s own texts for discussion.

Conclusion

The Text Workshop Miniatures offers writers of all ages the opportunity to sharpen their language perception and collaboratively develop short texts. Those who wish to practically explore literary forms and meet Nora Schramm in Gelsenkirchen should register in time.
