Findus, Caruso, and lots of children's laughter in the Little House
On Saturday, October 10, 2026, families will experience the humorous children's opera Pettersson and Findus and the Rooster in the Basket at the Musiktheater im Revier in Gelsenkirchen. At 4:00 PM, a musical family adventure begins, delighting children from around five years old with familiar characters, lively stage scenes, and a heartwarming story.
When a rooster suddenly changes everything
On Pettersson's farm, the rooster Caruso causes quite a stir. The hens are thrilled with the new resident, Pettersson enjoys his strong voice, and Findus suddenly feels less like the center of attention. The loud crowing and newfound attention completely disrupt the little cat's everyday life.
With a lot of humor, the children's opera tells a story of rivalry, jealousy, and the desire to maintain one’s place in a family. Children will recognize feelings from their own lives: What happens when someone new comes along? How does it feel when attention has to be shared? And how can reconciliation be achieved?
Musical theater as an age-appropriate learning experience
The children's opera by Niclas Ramdohr combines music, acting, and a clearly understandable plot. The production provides children with an accessible introduction to musical theater and enhances their curiosity about opera, stage, and storytelling together. Through listening, observing, and empathizing, valuable learning experiences are created around feelings, friendship, acceptance, and solidarity.
Particularly for families, the performance offers a special time together: Children can be amazed, laugh, and cheer along with Findus, while adults discover the sensitive story about development, relationships, and family dynamics. The themes remain close to children's everyday life and invite conversation after the performance.
A compact theater visit for families
The performance is expected to last from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM and is thus suitable for younger theater guests. It will be performed in the Little House of the Musiktheater im Revier at Kennedyplatz. The theater is accessible by elevator; about 700 parking spaces are available nearby starting one hour before the performance. The Musiktheater/Leopold-Neuwald-Platz stop can be reached from Gelsenkirchen main station by lines 107, 301, and 302.
