Family Cinema „The World in Pictures“: Movie Magic to Marvel at and Participate in
On Saturday, November 7, 2026, the Schauburg in Gelsenkirchen transforms into a special learning and experience place for children and families. At the Family Cinema „The World in Pictures“, young movie guests aged 4 to 12 discover how films represent reality, play with movement, and create their own stories.
Short Films Open New Perspectives
The program from the Cinemini-Europe collection invites participants to view the world anew using the means of cinema. Images, movements, and cinematic tricks are at the center. The children experience that a film always only shows a fragment of reality and yet offers infinite possibilities for storytelling.
The film educator Johanna Hoffmann accompanies the morning and moderates discussions between the short films. Together, families talk about images, movement, and the magic of the big screen. Thus, the family experience combines sensory wonder with age-appropriate media education.
Creative Participation Activities for Curious Children
After the short film program, the cinema becomes an experimental field. The children discover exciting film tricks, run movements backward, and bring paper kites to life. They also playfully investigate whether a pencil can move to music.
These practical actions foster curiosity, precise observation, and creative thinking. The learning experience remains child-friendly and illustrative: children experiment with how movement, rhythm, and images interact. This results in shared conversations, children's laughter, and valuable family time.
Media Education with Joy and Safety
The Family Cinema is designed as an extracurricular educational offering for families. The combination of moderated films, discussion prompts, and individual experiments supports children's development and provides initial insights into cinematic storytelling.
The offer is aimed at children aged 4 to 12 years and their families. The event takes place in a fixed cinema hall and is accompanied by an experienced film educator. Registration is required; participation is free of charge.
A Special Morning for the Whole Family
Visitors can expect a varied family program with short films, discussion rounds, and creative activities. Those who want to explore the world of cinema with children, experience learning fun, and create new images in their minds will find an inspiring place for shared time in the Schauburg.
