Linocut and Printing: Creativity Becomes an Individual Stamp

On November 13, 2026, the Gelsenkirchen Art School invites adults to a hands-on course focused on relief printing, linocut, and stamp design. Between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM, a printed motif will be created on paper from a personal idea.

From Design to Printing Plate

The focus is on direct tactile engagement with the work: Using cutting tools, a personal motif will be carved into rubber or linoleum. Each line alters the subsequent printing effect, and every cutout allows the paper to become visible. The course thus imparts fundamental principles of relief printing while simultaneously providing a personal approach to the visual arts.

Material, Form, and Imprint

Aesthetic experience arises from the interplay of material and movement. From a smooth plate, an individual printing plate develops, which is then transferred onto paper. Color, contrast, texture, and repetition give the motif its distinctive character. The finished imprint makes the creative process visible and preserves it as a personal artwork.

Cultural Education at the Art School

The course combines artistic practice with sound cultural education. Participants will learn about a traditional graphic technique, experiment with design possibilities, and experience how a simple design can evolve into an independent small edition. Focused work creates an inspiring exhibition atmosphere in the workshop and space for individual design.

Conclusion: An Art Experience to Participate In

The linocut course at the Gelsenkirchen Art School offers adults a direct and sensory access to printmaking. Those who wish to develop forms, explore materials, and create their own stamps will enjoy an inspiring evening full of practical work insights and creative discoveries. Participation is worthwhile for all who want to not only observe art but also create it themselves.
