Peace rests in my heart: Youth concert choir sings for community and togetherness
On Sunday, October 11, 2026, the Youth Concert Choir of the Choir Academy will perform at the St. Urbanus Probst Church in Gelsenkirchen-Buer. The a cappella concert will start at 4:00 PM and will combine sacred choral music with a musical search for peace, hope, and human connection.
Vocal sound between early Baroque and present
Under the direction of Johannes Honecker, the award-winning Youth Concert Choir presents a varied program from several centuries of music history. Works by Heinrich Schütz, Claudio Monteverdi, Anton Bruckner, Josef Gabriel Rheinberger, Amy Beach, Thomas Vautor, and Frank Bridge showcase the stylistic range of the ensemble.
Four to six-part vocal works, intricate polyphony, and finely balanced voices create a dense musical dramaturgy. Motets such as Bruckner's Locus iste, Monteverdi's Cantate Domino, and Rheinberger's Laudate Dominum bring historical sound languages into contact with contemporary perspectives.
A concert about peace and togetherness
The central question is how peace can be achieved and what answers music from different eras has found to this. The Youth Concert Choir combines musical precision with a clear emotional message: community is created when many individual voices unite into a common sound.
The live atmosphere of the St. Urbanus Probst Church provides a special resonance space for this. Transparent choral voices, long echoes, and careful synchronization make the architecture itself part of the concert experience. The program will also feature organ interludes by Carsten Böckmann.
Award-winning ensemble of the Choir Academy Dortmund
The Youth Concert Choir is regarded as a top ensemble of the youth division of the Choir Academy Dortmund. The singers aged 14 to 19 regularly work on demanding a cappella literature and also perform in choral-symphonic projects with renowned orchestras.
Among the younger musical partners are the Dortmund Philharmonic, the Bochum Symphony, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. This experience shapes the ensemble's stage performance: precise conducting, differentiated dynamics, and a unified sound are at the center of the concert.
Free admission at the St. Urbanus Probst Church
