Paul Gerhard: Hope, Comfort, and Joy of Life in the Matthäuskirche
On November 1, 2026, the concert Paul Gerhard – Hope Takes Flight invites you to the Matthäuskirche in Gelsenkirchen. The timeless verses of the great hymn writer Paul Gerhardt and his contemporaries are performed in sensitive piano arrangements, unfolding a contemporary musical resonance.
Between Meditation and Powerful Sound Language
The program explores central themes of sacred song art: trust, comfort, and joy of life. The piano music opens a quiet resonance space where the poetic power of the texts combines with warm sound and nuanced dynamics. Sometimes meditative, sometimes powerful, an atmosphere is created that touches heart and soul directly.
Rediscovering Paul Gerhardt's Song Art
Paul Gerhardt's poetry is among the defining voices of Protestant hymnody. His verses connect personal confidence with a language that remains understandable and approachable even after centuries. In the musical arrangement, historical song tradition, modern piano interpretation, and a focused stage performance come together.
A Concert as a Moment of Quiet
The Matthäuskirche becomes the acoustic space for a musical journey through hope and inner calm. Visitors will experience a concert that consciously contrasts the hustle and bustle of everyday life with a calm yet intense sound world. Admission is expected to begin 30 minutes before the concert starts.
